Sustainability Report 2025: Bottaro launches a structured ESG reporting pathway

First report published: data, impact analysis and initial development directions

Bottaro has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, the company’s first ESG reporting document, which systematically consolidates environmental, social and governance performance.

The report has been prepared in accordance with the VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs) developed by EFRAG, with the aim of providing transparent and comparable reporting of corporate activities.

The document represents the starting point of a structured pathway, enabling a clearer understanding of business processes, generated impacts and key areas for improvement.

Materiality analysis: identifying relevant impacts

At the core of the report is a structured materiality analysis process, developed with the direct involvement of management and aimed at identifying the most significant impacts generated by the company’s activities.

The process consisted of identifying impact areas and defining a detailed list of topics, assessed based on their relevance and time horizon, in alignment with VSME standards and the European ESG regulatory framework.

The identified material topics directly reflect the company’s industrial and organizational processes and include, among the main ones:

  • Energy and atmospheric emissions, related to energy consumption and Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions
  • Materials use and waste management, with a focus on resource valorization
  • Water management, linked to water use in production processes
  • People, health and safety, including training and inclusion topics
  • Ethics and governance, underpinning responsible business and value chain management

These areas serve as the reference for data collection and analysis, enabling reporting to be structured in line with the actual impacts of business activities.

Environment: energy efficiency and process control

The environmental dimension is addressed through a technical approach based on monitoring, analysis and continuous improvement of production processes.

During the reporting period, Bottaro recorded:

  • 2,138.1 tCO₂eq of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, with a predominance of indirect emissions related to electricity consumption
  • 6,755.4 MWh of energy consumption, part of which is already covered by renewable sources

The improvement pathway is structured along three main directions:

  • increasing the share of energy from renewable sources
  • optimizing energy consumption
  • upgrading production infrastructure

On the water side, the company uses indirect cooling systems and storage tanks, which significantly reduce groundwater withdrawal, keeping it within authorized limits.

Regarding materials, Bottaro adopts a model based on scrap recovery, reintroduced into the production cycles of partner steel mills and reused in the form of wire rod, with a high share of recycled content.

People and governance: solid structure and control tools

Bottaro stands out for a stable organizational structure, with a strong prevalence of permanent contracts and full coverage by collective bargaining agreements.

In terms of safety, injury monitoring and the adoption of structured procedures ensure effective control of operational risks.

From a governance perspective, the company has adopted formal tools that strengthen transparency and accountability, including:

  • Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct
  • Organizational, Management and Control Model (MOG 231)
  • Whistleblowing systems

This framework contributes to ensuring consistent and controlled management of business activities.

Next directions: energy, targets and development

The report also highlights the main future development directions. Among the initiatives already planned is the installation of a 999 kWp photovoltaic system, designed to reduce dependence on fossil sources and increase the share of renewable energy.

In parallel, Bottaro plans to:

  • define emission reduction targets
  • strengthen data collection and analysis
  • consolidate the management system and certifications

A data-driven starting point

The 2025 Sustainability Report represents the beginning of a structured pathway for measuring and managing impacts.

An approach that places data, processes and accountability at its core, with the objective of building greater operational awareness over time and ensuring growth aligned with environmental, social and industrial challenges.
